Reminder of PM Procedure: Dismissal/Pick-Up
Students are dismissed at 2:45PM. Please pick up children at the designated areas by grade level or near main entrance area. Please do not ask your child to meet you at the bike rack area or beyond the school curbside area. If you park away from campus, parents must come pick up the student and walk back to the car together. Loitering of students without parent supervision on the south side of the building in the staff parking lot area or by the bike rack is not permitted.  This is to avoid any unsupervised activities by outer forces as well as our own. All students must be picked up promptly at dismissal.

All the updates and information I share via School Messenger will also be updated on my blog at http://spicewoodprincipal.blogspot.com/ I will also update the blog with stories and reflections as the year goes on.

What a great way to start the 2013-2014 School Year!

Despite the first day jitters we all walked in with, I must say Spicewood ES had a fabulous first day of school!

Classrooms and the halls were filled with sound of our children laughing, talking and walking; it definitely breathed life into the school building, which is what all the staff had been waiting for.

Ms. Heard, Mrs. Hougham and I were able to visit every classroom to welcome back our students and introduce ourselves. Seeing their smiles and hearing their responses reminded me, once again, why I do what I do every day.

Thanks to our great staff and our wonderful parents that we were able to kick off the new school year with such joy and excitement! We will continue the great work to provide our children the world's best education beyond academics.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO A START OF ANOTHER GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!

Gearing up for the new school year!

Dear Spicewood Parents and Families,

Welcome back to all our Spicewood Elementary School students, parents, teachers and school community. We hope everyone enjoyed their summer break. Spicewood is an exceptional elementary school that has and continues to be a beacon of excellence in teaching and learning for all students. We are truly looking forward to another spectacular school year. Prior to the start of school, I wanted to share a few updates to insure that everyone is well informed.

Class Assignment
You will receive a hand-written postcard from your child’s teacher in mail this week as we’ll be mailing them Monday afternoon. Please be on a look out! J A hard copy of class assignments will also be posted at the front entrance door on Thursday afternoon by last name and grade level.

New School Website
As a district-wide initiative, Spicewood now has a new website.  http://spicewood.roundrockisd.org/
As we are in the transitional stage, the website, including many documents and informational links, is still in the process of being updated. I ask that everyone please bear with us as we take steps to complete our website.

School Supplies
School Supplies list is posted on our new school website. Please scroll down toward bottom right and you will find an icon that reads School Supplies. The list is a MS Excel document.

Building Security Update
To improve security level, the district renovated the front office area this summer. Main entrance area has been secured with double doors, which will lock automatically once the school day starts. Once locked, all visitors will enter through a door to the front office where everyone will be asked to sign in using the Raptor System. Office personnel will then be able to buzz each visitor through a door into the main hallway. This is so that we avoid having intruders and increase security level for our children and staff.

School Meals: Price Update & Paying Information
Below are the newly approved meal prices for the 2013-2014 school year.
            Elementary Students: Lunch $2.30
            Secondary Students: Lunch $2.55
            Reduced: Lunch $0.40
            Adults: Lunch $3.15
Each student is assigned an ID number and issued a scan card when they enroll in school. This six-digit number/scan card is used when purchasing meals and a la carte items. Please encourage your student not to share their scan card and to remember their six-digit ID number.
To load money into the student’s account is easy and can be accomplished three different ways:
Cash - include the student’s first and last name, student ID number, and total dollar amount on a piece of paper accompanying the cash and bring (yourself or by the student) to the cafeteria manager for depositing.

Check - include the student’s first and last name, student ID number, a parent’s driver’s license number, and total dollar amount on a piece of paper accompanying the check and bring to the cafeteria manager.
Credit Card - access www.paypams.com to pay for your student’s meal with a credit card.
Please encourage your student to bring cash and checks to the cafeteria in the morning before school, as money received during lunch slows down the serving line.

AM Procedure: Drop-Off
Students will be able to enter the building starting at 7:20AM. Students will be in the cafeteria till they’re released to their classrooms at 7:25AM. We continue our partnership with Hope Presbyterian Church so if you’d like to utilize their parking lot for drop-off/pick-up, please feel free to do so with a caution of flowing traffic. Crossing guards will be present but please walk across with your child(ren) at all times, if possible.

Parents are allowed to walk their student(s) to classroom only for the first week of schoolStarting second week of school, please adhere to the student drop off areas in the main hallways.

Please refrain from bringing dogs and cats on campus due to student, staff and parent allergies.

PM Procedure: Dismissal/Pick-Up
Students are dismissed at 2:45PMLoitering of students on the south side of the building in the staff parking lot area is not permitted.  Please pick up children at the designated areas by grade level or near main entrance area. Please do not ask your child to meet you elsewhere besides the designated area. This is to avoid any unsupervised activities by outer force as well as our own. All students must be picked up promptly at dismissal.

Administrator Office Hours
As a new principal, I would like to devote most of our leadership time to learn and build relationships with all of our 750 precious children; we will spend most of our time going into classrooms, talking with students and learning about our fabulous school and community. We will respond to emails and phone calls for open communication at all times in a timely manner. If a parent would like to hold a meeting with the principal and/or assistant principal, I ask that an appointment is made with Sheryl Seiders, the principal’s secretary. You can reach her at (512) 428-3602 or via email at Sheryl_Seiders@roundrockisd.org. I pride myself in spending a lot of time in the classroom with students and teachers so would most likely be unavailable to meet with you, if you happen to stop by or walk in.

Volunteer Applications
If you would like to volunteer this year at Spicewood, please complete the RRISD volunteer application posted on our website. Please note, the volunteer application has to be completed every school year.

Leadership Round Rock ISD
Round Rock ISD is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 class of Leadership Round Rock ISD, a program designed to give participants an in-depth learning experience about the school district. Application can be made online at  www.roundrockisd.org. The deadline to submit an application is noon on Friday, August 30.

Leadership Round Rock began in 2011, and will enroll 25 district stakeholders representing all areas of the school district. Meeting monthly from September through May, class members go “behind the scenes” of Round Rock ISD, meet the people who are responsible for programs and services, and see first-hand how the district creates a climate of success for its rapidly growing, diverse student population.
