Updates from the Principal- Last Week's Celebrations Included!

Dear Families of Spicewood,

It was a very busy week last week at Spicewood and I had the pleasure of seeing many of your faces on campus. I am reminded of how lucky Spicewood is every day to have such abundance of parental and community support. Once again, I am starting the newsletter with some celebrations from last week. Please make sure to read all the way through so you can mark your calendar with many great events and important dates as well.

Book Fair

Last week’s book fair was able to generate $29,000 worth of sales. Spicewood will receive 25% of the sales after tax. Thanks to students, parents and staff who made it such a great success! I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the parent volunteers who shared their precious time to run this event. We could not have been able to do this without your support!

K.I.S.S. Day [Kids Invite Someone Special Day]

Spicewood hosted hundreds of special guests this past Friday to KISS Cook-Out. It was a great way for kids to invite someone special and build a memorable moment together. We could not have had such a smooth Cook-Out without our awesome parent volunteers and their support. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful community.

Picture Day
Our students will take pictures for the year book this Wednesday, October 2. Please make sure our students bring a bright smile for the picture! :)

Destination Imagination Information Night
Destination Imagination is an after-school program where students build confidence through learning. They learn to unleash their imagination and take unique approaches to problem solving. Any parents interested in finding out more about it can join us at the parent informational night this Thursday, October 3 from 6:30-7:30PM.

What Is an IB Education- IB Parent Information Night
All parents are encouraged to attend the IB Parent Information Night on Thursday, October 24 at 6:00PM in the library. It’ll be a 30-minute information session right before the PTA Membership Meeting. Our IB Coordinator, Ms. Marvel, will share information on IB Primary Years Program in general, including learner profile, action cycle and IB continuum. See the invitation in the Friday eFolder.

School Messenger- Phone Message
We sent the very first round of Phone Message via School Messenger last Wednesday. Starting on Monday, September 30th, phone messages coming from any campus will have this number in the caller ID: 855-463-8097 , instead of the campus phone number. If a parent calls that number, the system will identify them by their phone number and play back up to the most recent 10 calls (including absence phone calls) from the past 30 days - including the time/date that message was sent. If the recipient has their caller ID blocked, the system will prompt them to enter the number that received the original call, after which the system will reply the recent messages to that number. If a parent contacts the office about not receiving phone messages, or wanting to change their phone number, they will need to talk to the registrar at their campus about updating that information.

Meet the Faces of Spicewood- Principal’s Blog
Please make sure to get to know Mrs. Sharon Lavery and Mrs. Lacey Clark-Lott. Two more employees will be featured sometime this week as well.

Parents, please do not leave your car parked on the curb right before the crosswalk at the intersection of Tin Cup and Olson. This is preventing cars from merging appropriately into the drop-off and pick-up line and is causing heavier traffic flow at dismissal.

Progress Reports
Teachers sent home progress reports this last Friday in their Friday folders. Please be sure to check the learning progress of your child(ren).

WatchDOGS Fridays
Friday, October 4 is the very first WatchDOGS Friday we will host. Please be sure to sign up to volunteer throughout the day. We appreciate your time devoted to helping our children and staff at Spicewood! If you would like to inquire about signing up for a specific Friday, please contact our teacher liaison, Jennifer Dower ( Sign-up sheets are also available on our WatchDOGS website.
