Updates from the Principal

Dear families and community members,

We launched our first round of WatchDOGS Fridays and I want to start off this week's newsletter with thanking the WatchDOGS volunteers that were with us last Friday. Our staff and students truly appreciated seeing you all on campus, helping and supporting us. It goes without saying that we appreciate ALL parent volunteers! Please be sure to read through all the way; I am sharing some pertinent information. Please mark your calendar with important dates and events.

Meet the Faces of Spicewood- Principal’s Blog
Please make sure to get to know Ms. Lindsey Carson. I was unable to feature two last week due to personal sickness. I promise that I'll feature three more employees this week so I can play catch-up.

Morning Tardy - School Starts at 7:45AM
We are seeing an increase number of students that arrive after the tardy bell at 7:45AM. School starts at 7:45AM and students must be in classrooms by that time. It is important that all of our students start the day promptly without being tardy so they do not lose instructional time every morning.

Spirit Night at Taco Cabana hosted by PTA
Please come and join us for dinner at Taco Cabana off of 183 & Anderson Mill this Thursday starting at 5PM. This event is one of PTA's fundraisers. It's a come-and-go event that will end at 8PM. Our 3rd grade teachers, TAG Teachers and I will be in attendance for part of the night.

STARS Mentor
Are you interested in making a positive difference in the life of a child at Spicewood ES? If so, you may be interested in becoming a STARS Mentor at Spicewood. If you’re interested in volunteering as a Spicewood mentor, please contact Tracy Boler at 512-464-6177. You can also sign up for mentor training or find more information about the STARS Mentor program by visiting the STAR Mentor information page found at this link. After you've signed up for the training, please contact Sara Hougham, 512-428-3609 or to let us know you've volunteered! For more information, please view the official flyer  located in the eFolder

What Is an IB Education- IB Parent Information Night
All parents are encouraged to attend the IB Parent Information Night on Thursday, October 24 at 6:00PM in the library. It’ll be a 30-minute information session right before the PTA Membership Meeting. Our IB Coordinator, Ms. Marvel, will share information on IB Primary Years Program in general, including learner profile, action cycle and IB continuum. See the invitation in the Friday eFolder.

Parents, please do not leave your car parked on the curb right before the crosswalk at the intersection of Tin Cup and Olson. This is preventing cars from merging appropriately into the drop-off and pick-up line and is causing heavier traffic flow at dismissal.

First and third Fridays of each month are designated as WatchDOGS Fridays this year. Friday, October 18 is WatchDOGS Friday. It was a GREAT SUCCESS last Friday! Please be sure to sign up to volunteer throughout the day. We appreciate your time devoted to helping our children and staff at Spicewood! If you would like to inquire about signing up for a specific Friday, please contact our teacher liaison, Jennifer Dower ( Sign-up sheets are also available on our WatchDOGS website.
