Updates from the Principal

Dear families and community,

It'll be a busy week yet again with our Family Gallery Night happening on Thursday and the Field Day on Friday! Family Gallery Night is a big night for all of our students at Spicewood as their art work gets showcased to share with everyone. The event will also be conjoined with the final General PTA Meeting so please plan to join us! If the weather gets in the way of the Field Day like last school year, we will communicate the updated information via email sometime during the week.

Celebrations

IB PYP 101

This portion of Mrs. Kim's letter is contributed by Mrs. Vance, our PYP Coordinator.

Using an event in history to drive their inquiries, the fifth graders are feverishly working on their exhibition projects. Doing research, speaking to members of the community, and collaborating with their peers allows the students to take a closer look at the issue or theme at the event that pulls at their "heart strings". Collectively, the students will take action (a key component to the PYP program, especially exhibition) as a result of their learning through a variety of creative expressions including animation, mini board games, bucket list challenges, info graphics, or other artistic modes.

In preparation of the event, students submitted invitations to send out to other IB schools, Round Rock ISD administration and our Spicewood community. From Powtoons to collaborative illustrations, there were over a dozen risk-taking and creative student submissions for the contest! Check out the winning submission below!

We'll share more about the students working in their classrooms in next week's post. We invite our community to come check out this exciting event on Wednesday, May 25th!

This Week's News

Spicewood Kinder Round-Up Events - Snack and Story Time
Come enjoy milk and cookies in the cafeteria, then head to the library for a story from our wonderful librarian, Ms. Laura Reeb. This event is a great way for your incoming kindergartner to get a feel for how things work in the cafeteria. The price for cookies is .75c and a carton of milk is .60c, for a combined total of $1.35. YOU MUST BRING EXACT CHANGE! If you prefer not to make a snack purchase, please feel free to bring your own snack from home. After snack, we will head to the library where Ms. Reeb will read a story and answer questions about the library. For your convenience, you and your child may attend this event on either Tuesday, May 17, or Wednesday, May 18, from 12:45-1:45pm. The itinerary is the same for both days so pick the day that best fits your schedule. To RSVP for this event please visit the Spicewood Kinder Round-Up page.
