Recruiting PTA Board Members & Chairs
Some of the benefits that PTA brings to our school include programs such as One World One Night, Spring Carnival, STEAM Day, the KISS Cookout and Art in the Classroom.  We also fund many of the fantastic clubs, and educational competitions that Spicewood offers including Math Pentathlon, Math Superstars, Spelling Bee, Destination Imagination, and Reflections.  We also provide funding to all of the teachers, including specials, running club, the literacy library, science fair.  We provide funding for teacher training, classroom field trips, classroom parties, teacher appreciation, and so much more.  This is why it's so critical for parents to step up and volunteer to keep PTA going.  If you are interested in volunteering, here's what you can do:  First, check out the President's Blog where she describes each of the board positions.  Then, throw your name in the hat for one of the board positions through our Online Interest Form. If you read the blog and still have questions, you can reach out to the board members currently serving in the positions you are curious about, or you can attend our next PTA meeting on February 23rd.  If you would like to volunteer for a chair position, please reach out to the current chairperson to let them know that you are interested.  If you have further questions, please email Carole Callaghan at spicewoodpresident@gmail.com.

    Updates from the Principal

    Dear families and community members,

I hope everyone's enjoying the long weekend with their family. I know many have been wondering where I have been for the last two weeks. Our household was hit by the flu and strep and I was finally able to get back into the groove of things back at work last Thursday. I'm back! :) Once I regain my voice, I'll be back out in the front to greet our children and parents in the morning and afternoon!

On a different note, Spicewood PTA needs you!!!  PTA is currently working to fill the board positions for next year, and we are in dire need of some good Spicewood parents to volunteer.  Being a board member is a great way to get to know Spicewood parents and staff, and it's a lot of fun.  Plus, our board, committee chairs, and event volunteers provide an invaluable service to our school and community.  Without volunteers, we won't be able to continue the many diverse and rewarding programs and school improvements that we provide each year. Please see below on ways to get involved!

    Celebrations

The special Core Values Award is given to the team which demonstrate great team work, respect, enthusiasm and spirit of friendly competition. In addition to the core values and robot missions, the team worked on coming up with an innovative solution for this year's research project challenge of exploring and enhancing human interaction with animals. They worked to bring awareness to the global issues of the vanishing species by running an awareness campaign for the native endangered bird Golden-Cheeked Warbler.

Immortals will now compete in the Central Texas Regional FLL Invitational Tournament on February 25th, 2017.

Our campus is reworking our science lab to create a new space for students to create and innovate, taking their personal inquiries to the next level. During the month of February, students have been sharing their stories and experiences with learning and speaking different languages. Using our new Inquiry Lab as a creative space, students were inspired to take action and share more about their Mother Tongue.

Using an ipad, green screen, and movie maker app, students filmed informational videos and interviews to share with our school community during our Morning Broadcast.

Check out a few that they've created!
